Everything Easwegian
Overview
Easwegians are the people of the Common Union of Easway, a nation which declared independence in 2017. Easwegians traditionally inhabit the Barents Region of Northern Europe and Svalbard, although since 1821 there has been a large diaspora, such as in Great Britain. Easwegians are a polyethnic people, traditionally consisting of Ezaari, Norwegians and Pomors, with a minority of Saami and Nenets. The official national languages of Easwegian include Ezerryen, Norwegian, Pomors Russian and English as a lingua franca. Saami and Nenets are recognised minority languages. The term Easwegians was coined in 2015 by Easwegian Paramount Founder Emizerri Tannurai; previously, the Easwegians typically went by the historiographic name Biarmian or by their individual ethnic identity.Easwegians found their common heritage in the medieval Novgorod Republic, which existed until the 15th century. Following its collapse, Easwegians were united by the resistance figure Marfa Boretskaya and the Banner of the Ouroboros. Before the late 16th century, Easwegians controlled greater Biarmia (the Barents Region) and resisted Muscovy expansionism. Following Muscovy's expansion and the firm establishment of the Tsardom, Easwegians were split between multiple states, although were able to establish the suzerainty of Free Pomoria centred around the Varanger Peninsula (administered by Norway as far Eastern Finnmark), with Danish backing. Due to this, Danish people are a brotherly nation of the Easwegians, with the Ouroboros' Standard (adopted 2024) inspired by the Danish Standard.
Easwegians are a communitarian people and their identity transcends ethnic lines. As such, English is a common lingua franca with essentially 100% of its people in Easway speaking the language. Ethnic traditions are practiced across the Easwegian municipalities. Christianity is the most commonly practiced faith, although denominations vary. Ezaari and Pomors Easwegians tend to follow either Eastern or Orthodox Catholicism, whereas Norwegian Easwegians practice Lutheranism.
