Easway lays claim to Biarmia

EASWAY LAYS CLAIM TO BIARMIA

Yesterday, the 31 January 2023, the Co-operative Government released the Biarmian Declaration, thereby laying claim to Biarmia, territory of the medieval Easwegian Commonwealth. The incorporation, confirmed unanimously by the United Common Assembly, increases the size of the maritime nation by roughly 614,000 km². Considered largely ceremonial, the declaration confirms Easway's commitment to their mainland national identity, and their diplomatic separation from the Kremlin. The official name of the coastal nation has now become the Common Union of Easway on Biarmia and the Svalbard Isles.

In a unanimous vote between 9 members of the United Common Assembly, Easway's federal parliament, Easway officially laid claim to Biarmia on Monday. Biarmia, named after the Permian territory of the medieval ages, encompasses the eastern portion of the vast Barents region of the arctic region, or as the Easwegian government calls it, Eastern Boriopa, or the 'Kraiche.' Biarmia is currently controlled by the Government of the Russian Federation, a fact which the Co-operative Government acknowledges, although remains undeterred.

Largely spearheaded by the campaign promises of newly incumbent Grand Councillor Suqeruli Bai; the Common Union's chief of state, and Federal Director Devaade Raizerni, the declaration lays its basis on the
land of the medieval Grand Commonwealth of Lord Commonwealth, a polity which existed as land of the Novgorod Republic from 1195-1478 and then independent from then until 1821. Easway also cited their commitment to the Pomors, a Russian-affiliated ethnic group that lives near the White Sea of Biarmia, who have been persecuted in recent years by Russia for their distinct seafaring identity.

The declaration also unified the territories of Bear Island and Pomors Frontier within Easwegian Svalbard into one as the Common Realm, the Easwegian Svalbard Isles. It establishes new Commonwealths, namely the Pomors Frontier, centred around the White Sea's southeast, Nenetsia, west of the Ural mountains, and Kola, centred around the Kola peninsula and which contains the newly proclaimed capital of Boriopolis, formerly Murmansk. The de facto capital has been renamed to Boriopa Centrum. Nenets becomes a regional language.

The new sovereign claims on Biarmia mark a new chapter for the ever-evolving Easwegian Common Union, and solidifies Suqeruli Bai's administration in popularity. Where this government shall take us next, is a future many in Easway are excited to see.
