The Foreign Ministry establishes the Easwegian Association of Northumbria

Today, His Eminence Grand Councillor Suqeruli Bai signed a decree into effect which establishes Northumbria, a region of Northeast England, Great Britain, as an Easwegian Association of our diaspora development agency, Easwegian Overseas Communities.

The region of Northumbria has a close place in the heart of many Easwegians. When Easwegians were scattered across the continent and beyond following the dissolution of the Easwegian Commonwealth in 1821, many of the Ezaari, including the leadership of the time, fled to allied Great Britain to establish a new life. Great Britain, which has had a proud history of taking in refugees from the medieval days and beyond, allowed us safe haven, and many of us thrived.

Originally landing in the port of Belfast, many travelled to Northunbria, England, to search for new economic means. From the Holy Island of Lindisfarne to County Durham, Easwegians called this place their home and may descendants of the Commonwealth live in this region today.

By establishing the Easwegian Association of Northumbria, we respect the sovereignty of Great Britain and we recognise the Easwegian Brits as a culture to develop and maintain solidarity with. Britain will always be an ally, and we hope to share our cultures further going forward.

Signed:

  • His Eminence, Grand Councillor Suqeruli Bai
  • The Most Honourable General Director Metallityöt Alaghbalous
  • The Right Honourable Jaani vi Escharnisjaane 'Teireet', Spokesperson of the Electoral Commission. The original proposer of the Association's establishment.
