The National Electoral Commission of Easway - Explained
The National Electoral Commission - Explained
The National Electoral Commission (NEC) is the supreme auditing and regulatory body of the Common Union of Easway, responsible for ensuring the democratic rights of all Easwegians and the correct functioning of the Co-operative Government's branches, according to law. The body is outlined in Chapter 2, Section 18, of the Constitution of Easway.
The NEC is led by a Spokesperson, who is accompanied by a directorial board. This board aims to employ people from all of Easway's different municipalities, in order to help ensure the protection of Easway's polycultural status, and to prevent an echo chamber of views within the organisation.
The NEC itself operates in a non-partisan manner and is made up of independent persons, who are not affiliated to the Government.
The National Electoral Commission has gotten more powerful in the years since 2022 onwards. Previously, the Ministry of Home Affairs (previously known as the Ministry of the Interior) would organise the dates of elections, referendums, and manage election engagement campaigns. Since Alderman of Bear Island Gaia Grìbhinneach's tenure as Minister in the Home Office (since 2023), they have renegotiated this arrangement with NEC Spokesperson Jaani 'Teireet' vi Escharnisjaane, whereby the National Electoral Commission shall be primarily responsible for the aformentioned public announcements. This was due to the wish to make public announcements more transparent and further build trust in state institutions.

The National Electoral Commission submitted a report recommending the Government rekindled relations with Norway, which had recently formed a new government by the previous opposition, alongside a national directive and a brief period of austerity.
