The Directorial Federation - The foundation of the Easwegian Common Union
The Directorial Federation is the name given to the Constitution of Easway, the highest legal document which dictates the rules of engagement for work done by the government. It is the foundation of the Easwegian Common Union
What is meant by the Directorial Federation?
The term Directorial Federation is split into its two word parts, Directorial and Federation.
Directorialism is the belief that a government should be run by the involvement of different competent and democratically elected factions and ideas, as one collegial body. Instead of policies being made by a president or an unwavering yet ultimately out-of-depth prime minister, in Easway, policies are made after deliberation by a council of the government's highest ranked officers, voted in by the public and our highest legislative body, the Easwegian Common Assembly. Directorialism ensures that there is no accumulation of power into a single individual, and that different ideas are sufficiently heard and considered. Directorialism ensures consensus.
Federation is the separation of powers within the realm so that different ethnic groups and regions are represented within the government. It ensures minority voices are heard, whilst providing unity and coming together.
How do we ensure that the Directorial Federation prospers and does not fall to mob rule?
The Directorial Federation is best served by a strong constitution, joint technocratic leadership and an informed populace. Yet, this is only the start. The Directorial Federation must exist in practice. Over the past while, Easway has stumbled, due to many factors, not least a weakened ideological vision. This is partly due to the collapse of party politics within the nation. Many may think this is a good thing, after all, a highly partisan nation is a divided nation - but there needs to be a healthy balance. What we are seeing now in the absence of a healthy, multi-party system, is the rapid polarisation of the people to two different sides: the progressive faction which has been isolated and made weak, and the authoritarian faction, which once weak has picked up significant steam. Why? Because the economy has been unable to recover since the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine and our subsequent collapse of ties with Moscow. I call for a return of healthy multi-party politics.
Furthermore, politicians have often become lazy and feel invincible. This is why our current Grand Councillor, His Eminence Zerrindou, won a landslide of 67% in the last election, on a wave of populism. He was not associated with the ruling politicians and the people begged for a strong outsider voice. Zerrindou ushered in the New Dawn and began an anti-corruption agenda. Zerrindou has shown us the hard to swallow reality at the core of the state. Yet, I believe that his measures will ultimately fall into further hardship if he is left to his own devices. Why? Because he is shaking up the foundation of the Common Union and is casting aside our most important institutional organ, the Directorial Federation.
So let me repeat myself and also give a concise account of what the form of our government must be. The people shall always without fail elect members of the Common Assembly, including the Grand Councillor. The Common Assembly must have patriotic and active parties within it to be able to properly function. These party factions within the Common Assembly shall vote for the executive, that is the National Directorate, who shall be made up of the most technocratic and experienced members of the Common Assembly. The National Directorate shall steer the ship, presided over by a General Director, whilst the Grand Councillor shall referee the government and act as the nation's primary guide. During the course of the time inbetween general elections, the Easwegian Dawn Liberation Front, the united front of people, shall help set a common ideological agenda. I plan to soon become the new administrative head of that organisation, alongside my capacity as President of the Common Assembly, to help keep the nation stable during our turbulent times, and ultimately bring us into further prosperity.
Heed my words, and build upon my advice. I will work with any person willing to bring this message forward. In co-operation we stand, Easway forever!
